UNIVERSE: Illusion sustaining Reality

April 2, 2013

By Prof J S Rathod Dictionary describes `Universe’ as the “whole of space and everything in it, including earth, the planets and the stars.” We are born here. We die here. We chase our material and spiritual desires here. Beautiful and enchanting it all appears in the beginning and we are enthralled and possessed by it. However, that doesn’t last long. Disease, death, vain self-interest driven human relationships, environment of violence and crime, rat race for money and power, environmental crisis, food and water famines, communication technology converting us into insensitive robots who are mere email-ids and mobile numbers deprived of the warmth of physical contacts and loving interaction with our near and dear ones – all these ultimately reveal that every pursuit in this world unfailingly ends up in mental and physical suffering. The core of the Buddha’s enlightenment was his confrontation with the suffering intrinsic to existence....

Authenticity Of Meher Baba Words

Authenticity Of Meher Baba Words

By MEHERWAN JESSAWALA As a member of the Publications and Copyrights Committee of the AMBPPCT, I am putting before you the reasons I feel that there is a need for publishing authorised editions of Baba’s unpublished words in the present time. I use the word ‘authorised’ not in the egotistic sense. We are not authorised to authorise! Baba is the Author and will ever remain so. All we are trying to do with our limited human nature and intelligence is to keep the published product as close to the original as possible, while correcting grammar and spelling, and where possible filling in blanks. In that sense, we are working to preserve the authenticity and the accuracy of Baba’s words for posterity. We are creating a benchmark which will be what the AMBPPCT could call an “authorised edition”, as opposed to other free-lance interpretations of the same manuscripts. I have...

Baba's darshan photo is raised into position at the Amphitheatre Stage.jpg

Meherabad hill, a short distance from the historic Ahmednagar city in Maharashtra is dressed up to host people coming from all over the world for Amartithi –the anniversary of the day, when Avatar Meher Baba dropped His physical body. Main focus of the commemoration on 31st of January is 15 minutes of silence from 12 noon. Some thirty-five thousand pilgrims will unite in silence to remember their Silent Master, who has been speaking only through silence since July 1925. The Amartithi celebrations begin on Jan 30 evening and will end around mid-day on Feb1. Baba lovers, as the pilgrims present themselves to the world, sing bhajans in praise of the Lord, enact skits on themes drawn from the Master’s Life and relive the glorious moments when He was amidst them as films with archive footage are screened at the amphitheatre, facing the Tomb Shrine. There are no speeches, making...

Meher Baba: “Tell me, how do you know I am the Avatar?”

January 3, 2013
By
baba at samadhi painting

“I am the Avatar. But tell me, how do you know I am the Avatar?,” Meher BaBa asked one day in January 1953 when he was with a group of devotees. Gaya Prasad Khare, reciting some verses from the Ramayana, said these couplets were enough to convince him Meher Baba is the Avatar. Baba replied, “But it is also said that many shall appear in the Kali Yuga as Perfect Beings and Avatars. How do you know that I am the Real One and not a fraud?” Someone said that none had declared himself as the Avatar as authoritatively as Meher Baba had; hence, Baba must be the Avatar. “But how can you say that I say all this knowingly?,” Baba asked again.”I may be copying the style after reading about previous Avatars. So, the proof is not in saying something in an authoritative way”. “In the world today,...

Searching for God in a World of Probability

By
The Avatar In A Relaxed Mood

Prof Surendra Bhatnagar Probability prevails. We all live in the universe born out of probability. We live in uncertainties. God is, but he plays through probabilities in the creation-game. All games are probabilistic as their outcome is always un-predictive. Einstein failed, while arguing for determinism at the foundation of universe. Niels Bohr won, arguing for uncertainty at the roots. Einstein conceded his defeat. It was a turning point in the history of science. The discipline of Quantum Physics was born. God was happy that man could clear a great road-block of understanding his nature. We now know that God is source and not the cause of creation. The cause came with the emergence of time-space in Him. The God is, and this is-ness alone was God, when nothing existed other than Him. The is-ness alone was truth- the Vedic sat. The only reality which existed in the form of...

Consciousness in Evolutionary Biology And ‘God Speaks’

Consciousness in Evolutionary Biology And ‘God Speaks’

By Prof Surendra Bhatnagar The living beings are the only observing entities that are able to recognize time and space. The man occupies an exalted position. The space and time are mind’s tools and the man occupies the center of cognitive existence. Only observation can give shape and form to the reality, writes Robert Lanza in his book ‘Biocentrism‘. Consciousness is a key biological problem, and, cognition is a key biological process. Yet little is known about them. I see bacterium under my microscope. It has no identity unless I magnify the field. I search for the brain of bacterium and despite magnified field of vision I am not able to locate it. How could it survive in the absence of any brain and respond to ever changing realities of the environment? Bacteria have no memory; they have a sensing feeling. They can feel even one percent change in...

Man’s Quest For Freedom And Peace

Man’s Quest For Freedom And Peace

Prof Surendra Bhatnagar Can Man measure sky? Yes, he can, anything in creation and beyond. Yet, the limits are everywhere When one draws a circle, he limits the universe. When one makes a statement he limits the concept. When one lives, his life is the limit, my dear The universe exists to the limit one sees it. So not the sky, but one’s eye is the limit, my dear The life is finite and a continuous fire of low flame. A name game, which the gods play in the mortal frames. Man can scan all that is bound by limits And all that is beyond. For every time the man dies He leaves his mind to defy. Although mind is a measure of all the finite things, man can measure even beyond, with infinitely free intelligence and consciousness within. This was the reason that God asked gods to bow...

THE LOGIC OF INCARNATION

By
THE LOGIC OF INCARNATION

By Prof Surendra Bhatnagar Man is closest to Bonobo – a species of apes from Central Africa, which have 98 percent genetic similarity with us. Yet, they remain animals because they can’t defy rules written for them. But man can. He can choose alternatives, make rules for his social conduct and break them with impunity, and write a new smriti, or change it. Vedas say God created the world in three steps. Meher Baba says that this creation process was unconscious. Step One was matter (Bhuh). A total darkness existed in the matter-energy existence (tamasagudhamgre- Nasadiya sukta.). No one to see; no one to feel; total ignorance prevailed as God in Vishnu stage was deep in sleep. Who knew this state? Perhaps none, even not gods as they were still not created, says Nasadiya sukta of Vedas. Existing then was law, which was also totally blind. Defiance came at...

‘Meher Baba is manifesting….manifesting…. manifested…’, says Anna Khandale

‘Meher Baba is manifesting….manifesting…. manifested…’, says Anna Khandale

By Ram Singh Kalchuri aka Malladi Rama Rao Meherabad (Ahmednagar): So many theories have been advanced on the manifestation of Meher Baba and all these are based on what Meher Baba had said at various times. The basic theme running through these theories is that Avatar of the Age has not yet manifested and that it will take place in due course, probably over the next fifty-sixty years. But eminent scholar and writer Anna Khandale, Anna to his friends, doesn’t agree with the general perception. He has, infact, put a new spin on the issue while fielding my question ‘when will Meher Baba manifest’. In his view, Meher Baba’s manifestation is not a one-off affair. “No, His manifestation is not an event, like Krishna allowing Arjun to see His divine universal form on the battle field of Mahabharata. He is continuously manifesting; it has become much more pronounced after...
